Woof - woof - taking our dogs for a fun trip to Italy
We take the two little dogs along when we travel for our summer cottage in Italy. Traveling with dogs is a form of art. First of all, must take care of vaccinations. Both our little yorkshire terriers vaccinations are going out-of-date at a different time, so good time before departure we have to check the situation and the effects to the vet. Less than 8 kg weighting dogs will tend to travel in the cabin carrycot, but in the Norwegian's flight to Rome, the animals always travel in the hold in their own traveling box. I buy for them animal-tickets for the same flight as we use. One dogs´ one -way flight will cost 50 euros from Helsinki to Rome, and two dogs, that's 100 euros / one way .Dogs are left on the special baggage counter. Customs officer is investigating the box and dogs passports, sometimes also identified chips. Cowl does not leave any loose , which could cause damage to the dog. Also, collars and leashes removed for transport and the basket, only a cup of water is allowed if it is hanging on the door and then there can be a blanket .
In Rome, the dogs are arriving close to the arriving luggage next to lines 9 and 10, to the nearby door. In Italy our dogs are full of enthusiasm and first I take them for a walk when we have gone past the booth duty at the door.

Heat is wearing dogs out in Italy in a different way than in Finland. This year, the mad a "Furcut" for both dogs the first time. It helped quite a lot of endurance. The appetite is worse in hot weather, so both of the dog do lose their weight during the summer.
Before the return flight to Finland, returning visit to the vet is still needed. When coming to Finland with dogs is mandatory to take Echinococcosis - worm medication for them. This year, I bought drugs from Finland to the vet for certainty, because last year, drug administration was in Denmark , Greve, as a last minute visit in a veterinary resource. Veterinarians in Torino di Sangro were on vacation when we left last year at the beginning of early August.Drug should be given 1 to 5 days before returning to Finland. The tablet is quite small and can be administered with food or you can do the following: a dog's head is lifted up , the drug in the mouth , muzzle to muzzle and a lead towards the ceiling until your dog has ingested the drug. Ingestion is to speed up the throat by brushing gently ( the Danish veterinarian wink ) .
