Auton vuokraukset ovat tänä kesänä
tuottaneet tuskaa. Edellinen vuokraus päättyi ”korjausmaksuihin”. Seuraava
varaus kolminkertaistui itsekseen – yhden sijaan minulla olikin kolme autoa
varauksessa ja kaikki velotettiin luottokortiltani.
Alun perin meidän piti viedä tyttäreni
kaverit Rooman kentälle rakentajamme Renaton autolla. Hän itse tarjosi autoaan
ystävällisesti lainaksi, mutta peruikin tarjouksensa lähtöä edeltävänä päivänä.
Olin paniikissa – kylän ainoa bussi Roomaan lähteen klo 7.10 ja se oli siltä
päivältä jo mennyt – seuraavan aamun lähdöllä ei enää ehtisi ajoissa koneelle.
Oli siis pakko saada auto vuokraan. Lähikaupunkimme Lancianon autot oli kaikki
varattu, joten varasin auton läänin isoimmasta kaupungista Pescarasta
puhelimella netin kautta. Lähdin hakemaan autoa bussikyydillä klo 9 kylästä ja
sain kuulla, ettei Pescaraan menisi enää vuoroja Lancianosta.
Kuitenkin keskusteltuani aikani bussikuskin
kanssa italiaksi, sain selville, että Lancianosta pääsisin Chietin kaupunkiin
ja sieltä paikallisvuorolla eteenpäin. Rohkeasti hyppäsin tuohon bussiin ja
jopa vaihtovuorot löytyivät.
Perillä Pescarassa lähdin vaeltamaan Avisin
toimistolle kännykän ohjeiden mukaan. Halusin kuntoilla, joten päätin kävellä
ja seurata kännykkänavigaattorin ohjeita. Viiden kilometrin kävelyn jälkeen
olin Via Circuitilla Pescaran eteläpuolella, mutta kävikin ilmi, että
kaupungissa oli kaksi samannimistä katua ja minä olin sillä väärällä!
Ohikulkijan ohjeiden mukaisesti hyppäsin paikallisbussiin ja lopulta löysin
oikean kadun ja vuokraamon.
Paikalliseen tapaan toimisto piti siestaa
keskipäivän jälkeiset tunnit. Notkuin sen ajan lähikahvilassa ja palkkioksi
odotuksesta sain käyttööni tuliterä Volkswagen Golfin! Se oli hieno ajokokemus!
Siispä neljältä seuraavana aamuyönä
starttasin vuokra-auton nokan kohti ihmeellistä Roomaa ja sen ”takana”
odottavaa Leonardo da Vincin kenttää eli Fiumicinoa. Tytöt ehtivät sittenkin
ajoissa koneeseen!

Problems with car rentals in Italy...
Car rentals for this summer produced me a lot of pain. Previous Rental ended with me paying "repair charges ." The next booking tripled to itself - instead of one, I had three cars in the reserve, and they all were charged from my credit card .Originally, we had to take my daughters´friends to the Rome Fiumicino airport with our builder Renatos´s car. He himself offered kindly lent his car, but cancelled the day before departure. I was in a panic - the village's only source was the bus to Rome at 7.10 and it was already gone for the day - the next morning's output journey no longer make it in time to the plane leaving to Finland. So it was bound to get a car rental.The nearby town Lanciano´s cars were all busy, so I booked a car from Pescara city via my phone´s internet. I went to pick up the car with the 9 am bus from the village and I was told that there would no longer be any turns to Pescara from Lanciano .However, after discussing some time bus driver with the Italian, I found out that I could get in Lanciano, by travelling first to Chieti town and from there taking the local bus. Boldly I jumped on that bus, and was in city in time.After my arrival in Pescara, I went to walk to the office of Avis using my mobile phone´s internet maps and their instructions. I wanted to do some outdoor-work out, so I decided to walk around and followed the instructions on mobile phone navigation system . Five-kimetres walk later, I was in the Via Pescara Circuit in the south, but it turned out that there were two roads under the same name in the city and I was in the wrong one! Accordance with the instructions from a passerby lady I jumped into the local bus, and finally I found the right street and the car hire .Local customs´ office had a siesta break after the midday hours . I stayed a couple of hours in a nearby cafe and I got my reward anticipation and it was that my rental was a brand new Volkswagen Golf ! It was a great driving experience !Thus, at four am next morning I started the drive with my excellent rental car towards Rome Fiumicino airport and girls made it in time for the plane!
